Welcome to the Digikyoe gallery site. Digikyoe is an adaptation of "Ukyoe, meaning "floating world," which refers to the impetuous young culture that bloomed in the urban centers of Edo (modern-day Tokyo), Osaka, and Kyoto. It is also an ironic allusion to the homophonic term for "Sorrowful World" , the earthly plane of death and rebirth from which Buddhists sought release." From Wikipedia, (page link)

With Digikyoe, the art that is created is a composite of what is seen in the physical world and what is experienced while immersed in the virtual realm of the computer. The illustrations are more than cartoons; they are more of a visual introspection into what is experienced as one travels though both realities. The visual style is a fusion of the diverse images, photos, advertisements' and personal observations experienced in these environments.

In Digikyoe, the base illustration is done with graphite and paper. The digitization process mirrors the techniques of screen printing and collage. The use of detailed vector-based masking shapes on many layers in the digital composition program, create the elaborate contour line quality that identifies this style. There is no actual line work in these illustrations,

We hope you enjoy the illustrations and mixed media work showcased on this site. Please feel free to rate and provide comments on the work presented. We will be constantly updating the site and adding new work.
